The Medical Technologist/Medical Laboratory Scientist performs a variety of laboratory tests of varying complexity to be utilized in the diagnosis and treatment of disease. Caregivers in this role will gain valuable experience and knowledge to help prepare them for workplace and career advancement.

Job Specifics:

  • Benefits Eligible: Yes
  • Pay Range: Registered MLS, $30.34-$46.38, Unregistered MLS, $27.60-$42.57, MLT, $22.80-$35.19 (Based on experience)
  • Shift Details: 1100-2100 or 1200-2200 with rotating weekends/holidays
  • Additional Details: Will consider Unregistered/Registered MLS candidates as well as MLT candidates.

Job Essentials:

  • Performs routine and STAT laboratory testing, reviews results for accuracy, problem solves, and reports accurate and timely information.
  • Completes required quality control testing, maintains records and documentation necessary to fulfill regulatory agency requirements, and takes appropriate corrective action as necessary. Performs periodic regulatory reviews of quality control data.
  • Performs preventative maintenance, cleaning, and calibration procedures according to SOPs and manufacturer's developed schedules.
  • Performs proficiency testing and achieves satisfactory results related to all specialties or areas worked. May provide oversight / coordination of proficiency testing and review.
  • Completes minimum number of required continuing education credits to maintain certification.
  • May provide appropriate instruction to patients and their family members.
  • Acts as a technical expert to co-workers and other departments. May mentor staff, deliver education, and foster customer service.
  • May help maintain supply inventory, notifying supervisor when supplies are low.
  • May prepare education materials and provide input on SOP revisions.
  • May serve on hospital or system committees.
  • May evaluate new equipment.
  • May function as the key operator for assigned equipment.


Minimum Qualifications:

Registered MLS

  • Bachelor's degree in chemical, physical, biological, or clinical laboratory/medical technology science. Education must be obtained through an accredited institution. Degree will be verified. - OR - Completion of course work and internship requirements in a qualified MLS program and eligibility to sit for the BOC. Certification must be completed and documented within 6 months of hire to remain in the registered MLS role.
  • Medical Technologist / Medical Lab Scientist certification or equivalent certification as approved by Manager and Human Resources. Certification must be maintained to remain in job.
  • Flexibility to work a variety of shifts that may include weekends, holidays, nights and on-call.

Unregistered MLS:

  • Bachelor's degree in chemical, physical, biological, or clinical laboratory/medical technology science. Education must be obtained through an accredited institution. Degree will be verified. - OR- official transcripts demonstrating completion of a recognized and accredited program.
  • Flexibility to work a variety of shifts that may include weekends, holidays, nights, and on-call.

MLT:

  • Associates degree or at least 60 semester hours of an accredited MLT program along with national certification, MLT (ASCP or approved accrediting agency), or equivalent (military) certification as determined by Manager. Degree must be obtained through an accredited institution. Education is verified.
  • Flexibility to work a variety of shifts that may include weekends, holidays and nights.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience with laboratory information systems.
  • Experience in relevant areas of the clinical laboratory.

Physical Requirements:

Physical Requirements

  • Interact with others requiring the employee to verbally communicate information.
  • Operate computers and complex and delicate lab equipment requiring the ability to move fingers and hands.
  • See and read lab equipment, monitors, and documents.
  • Remain sitting or standing for long periods of time to perform work on a computer or other equipment.
